STUDENTS OF the University of the West Indies who are parents may soon have the option of having their children looked after on campus.
By August next year, the Cave Hill campus should have a working day-care facility. Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Education, Dr Jennifer Obidah said the estimated BDS $2 million facility would also provide training for those interested in early childhood education.
“We will be establishing an early childhood day-care and training development centre here on campus. We are going to be training the next generation of early childhood educators but we’re also going to be providing day-care services for our students so that as parents come to better themselves through education their children will be cared for right on campus,” she said.
Obidah was speaking after a signing between the Caribbean Development Bank and the Cave Hill Campus at the 3Ws Pavilion to fund research in Curriculum Development and Training in Gender Socialisation for Early Childhood Development Practitioners.
She said they were currently in the process of ensuring all the relevant permissions and training were in order and were also seeking business partners for the venture. (CA)
