Jazzy Caribbean Christmas

SUNDAY NIGHT’s Christmas Jazz was full of Caribbean flavour, filled with recognisable treats and some unexpected and unpredictable surprises.

The night was all about showcasing Caribbean musicality and while many would have heard all the carols and songs before, it was the new executionsthat thrilled the sold-out Plantation Theatre.

One drawback is the small stage at the St Lawrence, Christ Church venue, but Arturo Tappin and his band of 19 merry men and one woman made it work with their instruments and their presence.

With no “guest artistes” of the likes of vocalists Lalah Hathaway et al, Tappin instead showcased the local vocals of Marissa Lindsay, Nikita, Kristen Walker and Philip 7.  (NS)
