JUST OVER 500 members of the St Michael North constituency were treated to food, drink and song when the long-serving Member of Parliament, Ronald Toppin, held his 21st Christmas luncheon at the Soroptimist Village, Eden Lodge, on Sunday.

In addition to the Christmas fare, the partakers were given a musical treat by Kareem Agard. A number of prizes were also on offer.

Toppin said this year the festivities were tinged with some degree of sadness as a number of people who would have attended the luncheon had passed away.

“Even so, we did not allow that to damper the spirit as this luncheon, which has become a tradition since 1995, has evolved into a family gathering where the constituents meet and enjoy good food, music and friendship.

“The last eight years have seen our numbers moving above the 500 range and we have set up tents outside to accommodate the increased numbers,” he added. (KB)
