Young mums get a boost

Fifteen young Barbadian mothers have been given a chance to reclaim their lives in a pilot programme undertaken by the Barbados Family Planning Association (BFPA) and spearheaded by the Maria Holder Trust.

The women graduated from the first Adolescent Mothers’ Programme funded by the Maria Holder Trust and supported by the Caribbean Policy Development Centre and several facilitators.

At a recent Press conference at the BFPA’s Bay Street, St Michael offices, executive director Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland said the programme not only focused on women’s and girls’ sexual and reproductive health, but also helped them to build life skills and upgrade their education in a bid to secure a place in the  job market.

She said the initiative had touched the lives of the participants, their children, families and their partners.
