Apes Hill talks moving forward

THE ISSUES RAISED by workers at Apes Hill Club are expected to be resolved early next year once talks between their union and management continue as planned.

For three hours yesterday, a team from the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU), led by acting deputy general secretary Dwaine Paul, management from the Apes Hill Club under the leadership of chief executive officer Donavan Bagwell, and officials of the Labour Department, including Chief Labour Officer Vincent Burnett, met at the Labour Department’s Warrens, St Michael office to discuss grievances outlined by workers.

The meeting, which started just before 10 a.m., ended shortly after 1 p.m. after which Paul said the talks were “progressive and cordial”.

“We have basically agreed to continue with the negotiations process,” he added. “We have reached some determination on some matters today and we have agreed on further meeting dates as soon as the new year opens.
