BLAME THE HAULERS, not the hotels.

This was the declaration from Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA) chief executive officer Sue Springer, who yesterday rubbished claims that a group of hotels was responsible for massive illegal dumping in St Thomas.

“The hotels are not responsible. If they have contracted somebody, it is the contractor that is responsible, not the hotel,” Springer told the DAILY NATION as she totally rejected claims made by acting manager of the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA), Roslyn Knight, that the tourism-based businesses were ultimately responsible.

“Hotels pay companies to remove their garbage because the SSA does not remove any of their garbage. It’s not like the hotels are putting it in a truck, taking it and dumping it themselves,” Springer said.
