More than 5 000 cannabis plants seized in operation

POLICE SEIZED 5 789 cannabis plants in this morning’s operation during which a constable received a gunshot to his hand.

Officers were carrying out a drug eradication exercise in Storey Gap, Station Hill, St Michael and the immediate surrounding areas when they were met with gunfire.

Public relations officer acting assistant superintendent David Welch said the officer is in stable condition and a hunt is on for the perpetrator or perpetrators.

He said the tallest plants were six feet high.

Meanwhile, police also seized cannabis plants in two St John communities on Monday.

At Small Hope 2 698 plants were discovered ranging from seven inches to four feet in height while 1 709 plants ranging from eight inches to four feet were found at Edgecliff.

No arrests were made. (PR/NB)
