THE NEW YEAR is already looking grim for around ten clothing vendors suffering delays at the Seawell Customs warehouse.
They said they had been trying to get their goods for the more than a week but were told the vehicle which was supposed to transport their items to the warehouse was inoperable.
The situation came to a head this morning as the retailers said they had reached the end of the line.
“This started before Christmas and now its old year’s so from then to now nothing could have been put in place for us? We don’t sell toys, we sell clothing and this is one of our biggest days,” said Philip Small.
The retailers said it would be pointless if they did not get their goods by afternoon by the latest as people would not be buying anymore.
After waiting for around three hours, the upset small business people marched upstairs to speak with assistant comptroller Sonia Jordan-Clarke. After some heated words, they were told attempts were being made and went back outside under the supervision of Customs security.
Around 12:30 p.m. the men and women were still waiting outside the gate where their goods were kept, hopeful of salvaging one of the biggest shopping days of the year. (CA)
