11 reasons to celebrate

THE MORNING SUN welcomed 11 New Year babies, with more expected, said Sister Cynthia Gibson of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital yesterday.

Eight seemed to be enough by midday yesterday, New Year’s Day, but three others felt that they should not be outdone and arrived to be part of the overall 2016 contingent.

The first to show its face, arriving one minute into the new year, was a baby boy belonging to first-time mother 31-year-old Julia Scotland. Two hours later it was the time for 19-year-old Sharyse Holder to signal the arrival of her first child – a girl at 2:01 a.m.

A string of births followed. Five boys and two girls were confirmed, while Lauretta Harris was in active labour at just before noon.
