Consider these things, Mr Ellis

“We can’t run away from the truth. The truth is that there is a lot of talk on the ground in this country about what is happening in certain Government departments and…… We are looking at issues of productivity and the degree to which the union movement is alleged to be standing in the way of progress in the country.” ELLIS STATED – Daily Nation, Tuesday, January 5, 2016.

OBVIOUSLY, the above statement is Mr David Ellis’ truth.

However, in direct relationship to productivity and progress, there are other truths that can be found in the following:

• The presence of sick building syndrome (SBS) from time to time in Government buildings, especially schools.

• Inadequate ventilation and poorly maintained air conditioning – factors contributing to SBS.

• The presence of chemical contaminants, bacteria and molds in ceilings and carpeting – factors contributing to SBS.

• Inadequate and untimely servicing of septic and sewage systems – factors contributing to SBS.

• Absenteeism resulting from the above.

• Supersession.

• Poorly chosen management and supervisory personnel.

• Lack of adequate and appropriate training for the job.

• The absence of employee satisfaction surveys as an integral component of performance appraisal.

These stated truths do not emanate from “talk on the ground”, but real-life experiences.
