THE NATIONAL STADIUM isn’t closed and can still be used for athletics and other sporting events, but the stands will remain out of bounds for spectators.

Minister of Sports Stephen Lashley made that clarification in an interview with MIDWEEKSPORT on Old Year’s Night at the Crane Resort in St Philip.

“I keep hearing that the National Stadium is out of use. It is not out of use. The track and the other facilities at the Stadium are there. Now, events can be held, but you will not have the number of spectators that you would [usually] have. I think that is what really has to be borne through,” Lashley noted.

He said he saw an article which implied that in an Olympic year, both the National Stadium and Wildey Gymnasium would be closed.
