THIS YEAR’S Sandy Lane Barbados Gold Cup will have a foreign invasion, with nine American-based horses among the 16 nominated.
When the first subscriptions for the southern Caribbean’s most prestigious horse race closed at the Barbados Turf Club’s (BTC) offices, monies for ten overseas horses – nine American and one out of Trinidad – had been paid up to contest the 35th running of the pattern event.
Heading the nominations is double defending American champion owner and breeder, racing tycoon Kenneth Ramsey, who have put forward last year’s winner Sayler’s Creek.
Ramsey, who has pledged to equal the record of Hopefield Stables’ seven wins in this event, has also thrown in Shining Copper, Saffron Hall, Purely Boy and Watchyourownbobber.
