Turf seminar timely, says minister

THE FIRST regional seminar on football pitch maintenance began yesterday at the Radisson Aquatica and Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth Stephen Lashley called it timely and relevant.

Lashley was giving the feature address at the Regional Football Turf Maintenance Seminar, which is being put on by FIFA in association with the Barbados Football Association. More than 60 representatives from the 30 member associations of the Caribbean Football Union are on the island for the seminar that concludes today.

The chief facilitator for the seminar is Dr Steven Baker, football turf and natural grass consultant for FIFA. The focus is on the importance of regular maintenance regimes for football pitches.

The minister thanked FIFA for staging the seminar as proper facility maintenance is a challenge not only in Barbados but throughout the Caribbean.
