YOUNG BARBADIANS now have an opportunity to join the Barbados Defence Force’s (BDF) Regular and Reserve Elements.

The BDF has advised that those interested in becoming members of the Regular Element (full-time) should be males between the ages of 18 and 25; be citizens of Barbados by descent or naturalisation and have CXC certificates in Mathematics and English.

Applicants who are 17 years and 9 months must include a letter of consent from their parent or guardian.

Males and females can also apply for the Reserve Element (part-time) of the BDF. The requirements are similar for those applying to be full-time soldiers.

Persons with visible tattoos will not be considered for selection.

Interested persons must complete an application form, currently available from the Main Desk, St Ann’s Fort, Garrison, St Michael. The deadline for the submission of forms is Friday, February 26.

All applications must be accompanied by three certified passport-sized photographs, three recent testimonials, a copy of the person’s birth certificate, certified copies of academic qualifications and a recent Police Certificate of Character.

Successful applicants will be required to undergo recruit training for five months. On successful completion of that training, they will be assigned to either the Barbados Regiment (Infantry Unit) or the Barbados Coast Guard (Maritime Unit) of the BDF. (BGIS)
