Three qualify for World Indoor Meet

THREE Barbadian athletes – Greggmar Swift, Levi Cadogan and Akela Jones – competing in overseas meets last weekend, reached the qualifying standard for next month’s World Indoor Championships in Oregon.

Competing at the Pedro Cup in Poland, Swift finished second in the 60-metre hurdles final in 7:58 seconds, while sprinter Cadogan was third in the 60-metre final in a time of 6:63 seconds.

Cadogan also ran at the IAAF indoor meeting in Karlsruhe, Germany, and finished seventh in the 60-metre final in personal best 6:62 seconds, again surpassing the qualifying mark for the March 18 to 20 championships.

Jones won the women’s 60-metre hurdles finals in a career-best 8:05 seconds at the 41st Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln.

At the same meet, Cindy Forde finished tenth in the women’s 3 000 metres, establishing a new national indoor record with a time of 9:54.40 minutes. (EZS)
