ST JOHN’S – The Antigua and Barbuda government Wednesday announced that it had recommended that veteran politician, Robin Yearwood, be conferred with a knighthood for his services to the country.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne told a news conference he had made the recommendation to the National Honours Committee that his Aviation Minister, who entered parliament in 1976, be knighted.
An emotional Yearwood, who was present during the announcement, is regarded as the longest serving legislator in the Commonwealth.
Following the Antigua Labour Party (ALP) defeat in the 2004 general election, Yearwood was one of only three ALP members in the Parliament and became Opposition Leader, a post he held until he was replaced by the present attorney General Steadroy Benjamin in 2006. (CMC)
