Ash Wednesday with a GG visit

INSTEAD of the traditional church service and the mark of the cross of ashes received on Ash Wednesday, children at Luther Thorne Memorial Primary School were yesterday graced with the presence of Sir Elliott Belgrave, Governor General of Barbados.

Pastor David Holder, in his address to students, encouraged them to remain steadfast in all they do. Using Abraham Lincoln as an example, Holder highlighted the obstacles that Lincoln had to overcome on his journey to becoming “one of the greatest presidents of the United States of America”.

“It’s not where we begin, it’s how we end. To get [to the end] there will be setbacks and many obstacles to overcome, but with diligence we can see it through,” he said.

Sir Elliott reiterated Holder’s point to students of remaining steadfast in all they did.
