ATV tours taking toll at Turners

VEHICULAR TRAFFIC in Turners Hall Woods is damaging the country’s only remaining untouched forest.

Minister of Environment and Drainage Denis Lowe is worried this could lead  to irreparable damage to the area, and  as a result legislation is coming to protect  the historic 50-acre site.

As Lowe and members of his ministry toured the forest yesterday as part of his Gully Eco-system Assessment Programme, Professor Sean Carrington, a specialist in plant biology at the Cave Hill Campus,  said he suspected the damage was being caused by man-made “roads” by all-terrain vehicle (ATV) users travelling through  the area.

These roads were discovered back  in October 2015 by Turners Hall resident Arthur Maynard, who reported the matter  to Carrington, who in turn wrote to Lowe and the ministry regarding the situation.
