CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER of the Barbados Agricultural Society James Paul has called for a revision of the building practises in Barbados, particularly as it relates to persons putting concrete all around the structure and hampering the absorption of rain water through the earth.
Paul said the practice was contributing to the shortage of water in the Barbados Water Authority wells and depleting the local aquifers.
Speaking at the Democratic Labour Party Christ Church South branch meeting at St Lawrence Primary School this evening Paul said similar to Canada where gravel and grass lawns were encouraged, Barbados should take note and give the earth a chance to absorb some of the water.
In addition Paul, the parliamentary representative for St MichaelWest Central, called for all homeowners to harvest rain water. (LK)
