THE BUILDING that once housed the Barbados Telephone Exchange/Company and then the Barbados National Bank at the corner of James and Coleridge Streets is no more.
And in its place, in time for this year’s 50th anniversary of Independence celebrations, will be a block which officials say will enhance the City’s status as a world heritage site.
Crews from C.O. Williams Construction Ltd, as well as one from Steinbok Management Services Ltd, were on site from Saturday evening through yesterday tearing down the building, part of which dates back to the 1880s. The roads which were closed to pedestrian and vehicular traffic over the weekend were due to be reopened early this morning.
