Seems Charles Vanderpool’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) trophy is all too deserved.
Captain courageous came up big yet again, scoring the game-winning free throw with 1.9 seconds left in Orange 3 Pinelands’ dramatic 60-59 win over rivals Lumber Company Lakers on Saturday in the Co-operators General Insurance Basketball Premier League at the Wildey Gym.
It was the second set of heroics in as many nights for the reigning MVP, who also scored the go-ahead lay-up inside the final two seconds to beat defending champs Warrens by an identical one-point margin.
And just like that previous last-second victory, the Pine’s opponents were made to pay for overplaying Jeremy Gill, as the star guard split two defenders off the dribble after they tried to trap him coming off a Vanderpool screen.
