Fewer wells

THE BARBADOS WATER AUTHORITY has lost two of its key wells in the north of the island because of lack of rain and it is that, and not faulty pumps, that was responsible for dry consumer taps.

This was the chorus from the hierarchy of the Barbados Water Authority at a town hall meeting, hosted by the BWA and the St Peter Constituency Council, at the Edna Nicholls Centre on Thursday night.

Acting general manager Dr John Mwanza, manager of engineering Charles Marville and the BWA’s water quality technologist Alex Ifill fielded questions from irate, vocal and fed up St Peter residents, who complained about long-standing burst services or mains, murky water coming from taps, no water at all for days on end and the suspect water quality in the community tanks in the area.
