A LACK OF MOTIVATION seems to be a major challenge facing some students when it comes to appreciating the value of education, said principal of Ellerslie Secondary School, Major Errol Brathwaite, yesterday.

He said the school and parents must therefore work hand in hand to get students on the right track.

“Many of them do not understand the value of education. Oftentimes students come to school and they do not understand the purpose for which they are coming, so that makes our job even harder.”

Brathwaite said whenever there was a challenge, the Black Rock, St Michael school had to work with its students to show them where they were going wrong, put the necessary corrective measures in place and offer a positive alternative.

The principal said the youngsters had impressionable minds and “most of them will not  know certain things and we have a major responsibility developing them in that regard”. (TSG)
