Sada races to Carifta time

SADA WILLIAMS announced her intention of winning gold at this year’s CARIFTA championships with a personal best performance in the women’s 200 metres on Sunday at the Louis Lynch Championships at the National Stadium.

The Elite Distance Programme athlete was in ripping form to win in 23.26 seconds and qualified for the CARIFTA Games in the process. It was not even a close race as Katrina Small of Quantum Leap was second in 25.22 seconds while Faith Taylor of Wibisco Stars was third in 25.92 seconds.

Williams also ran a CARIFTA qualifying time of 53.95 seconds in the 400 metres on Saturday.

In the men’s 200 metres, Fallon Forde of UWI Blackbirds left the pack in his wake to win in 21.32 seconds. Matthew Clarke, an exciting first year Under-18 athlete, was second in another CARIFTA qualifying time of 21.64 seconds. Jermain Hinds was third in 21.75 seconds.

Anthonio Mascoll of Elite Distance wowed the crowd to win the very exciting men’s 800 metres in 1:49.56 seconds. Hot on his heels in second place was teammate Jonathan Jones, who clocked a personal best 1:51.15. Wade Garner of The Lodge School was third in 1:53.26 while Akeem Marshall made the CARIFTA grade by placing fourth in 1:53.85.

Elizabeth Williams, another Elite Distance athlete, was an easy winner in the women’s 800-metre run. Williams crossed the line first in 2:15.65 seconds while teammate Florence Fields was second in 2:20.02 seconds. Krysta Maloney was third in 2:22.16.

Triston Gibbons, also of Elite Distance, blew away the competition in the Under-18 boys’ shot put. Gibbons maintained his form to win the event with 15.26 metres. Seth Edwards was second with 13.48 metres while Christ Church Foundation’s Jonathan Greenidge was third with 12.66 metres.

Darian Clarke was again the class act among the Under-15 boys’ with an easy win in the 200 metres. The Quantum Leap athlete won in 23.15 seconds while teammate Thierry Jordan was second in 24.33 seconds. Akil Howell of Pacers Track Club was third in 24.56 seconds.

BC Trac took the first two positions in the Under-13 girls’ 200 metres. Jaliyah Denny was first in 26.12 seconds while Rickyla Fagan was second in 26.90 seconds. Muiriel Corbin of Freedom Striders was third in 26.99 seconds.

The next athletics event on the calendar is the February Classic, which comes off on Saturday at the National Stadium.
