THE BARBADOS LIGHT & Power Company is urging its commercial customers to be mindful of vehicle heights and overhead utility wires.
In a release issued today, BL&P said damage to electricity infrastructure due to vehicular accidents is costly and impacts service to customers.
“On Thursday, February 25, The Barbados Light & Power Company responded to an incident where a commercial boom truck pulled transmission wires down and broke a utility pole at Gibbs, St Peter. As a result, electricity supply to customers in Mullins, Gibbs, Carlton, Porters, Westmoreland and surrounding areas was affected. The restoration process started at 10:51 a.m., and power to all customers was fully restored by 6:48 p.m.,” the company said.
BL&P went on to note that it was “committed to providing safe, cost-effective and reliable energy to our customers – today and in the future”.
“One way we are delivering on this is to work with our commercial customers who operate large vehicles in the course of their business to ensure they are aware of overhead utility wires and clearances required to safely navigate them. Lack of awareness, or acts of negligence, can cause accidents and injuries, negatively impact customers, and takes time to repair. We will continue our education efforts with our valued commercial customers regarding safe work practices pertaining to electricity and electrical equipment.”
The company apologised for the inconvenience caused to customers affected by the incident. (PR/NB)
