A VIBRANT cruise industry is projected to see passenger arrivals in 2016 reach a record 800 000 figure.

This was part of the positive side of the tourism picture painted by chief executive officer (CEO) of the Barbados Hotel & Tourism Association (BHTA), Sue Springer, when she reported on the island’s tourism performance at the first quarterly meeting of the BHTA at Hilton Barbados yesterday.

Springer said successful berth expansion at the Bridgetown Port had seen bigger cruise ships being accommodated, with 13 cruise liners now using it as their home port.

Home porting business grew by ten per cent over the previous year, while the air/sea exchange had resulted in a busier Grantley Adams International Airport as well as improved hotel occupancy for cruise passengers who spent extra days in Barbados, she added.
