LOCAL CYCLING’s worst fears have been realised.

Darren Matthews is putting down the bikes for the foreseeable future.

Barbados’ best endurance cyclist has been officially unsaddled until 2020 after being served with a four-year ban for failing two separate drug tests last season.

The National Anti-Doping Commission made the ruling earlier this week and is reportedly set to issue a press release sometime today following a January 25 hearing at which Matthews was present.

A source close to the commission revealed that the 25-year-old didn’t request a B-sample after testing positive for the anabolic steroid clenbuterol and a banned stimulant, methylphenidate, while showing abnormally high levels of testosterone.
