FROM ALL reports the 2016 Agrofest was a success, especially on the last day (Sunday), as thousands of adults and children flocked to Queen’s Park, Bridgetown, for the final day and many were thrilled.
It had as its theme this year Grow, Sell, Eat And Repeat, which worked for it, because you should have seen the many persons purchasing the vegetables and the poultry products from the many stalls (tents) along with flowers and other herbs for their gardens. We must not only leave it up to members of the 4H movement who did a fantastic job.
But we adults must let our young people be aware that agriculture is a profession like any other discipline and you can earn a good living from it.
As for me, this year’s Agrofest was my year because my animals [pigs] won a number of prizes; but there is one person that I cannot beat and that is Ian Branch. There was some good in it for everyone. Even the dog lovers had something to smile about.
I think the animal section – the cows, sheep, goats and the pigs – were of great interest to the children. Not only were they of interest to the children but to the Governor General, His Excellency Sir Elliott Belgrave, who was seen in the section. The interest was also there for Minister of Housing Denis Kellman. To be honest, the livestock really looked good.
Lady Belgrave was also seen visiting the vegetables stall, where the interest was very high. Since there was interest and excitement for the children, we have to do something to harvest that interest since they are the future.
Congratulations to James Paul, the chief exeuctive officer of the Barbados Agricultural Society, and his team for a job well done. Keep it up.
