NONE OF THE 21 entries submitted for the 50th Year of Independence Anniversary Song Competition has gained the nod of approval of the judging panel.

In making the announcement today and thanking those who participated in the competition, Permanent Secretary in the National Independence Secretariat, Gabrielle Springer, stated that the decision has therefore been taken to commission a song to be used in official programming, advertising and at national or public events during the year of celebrations.

Late last year, the National Coordinating Committee for the   50th Anniversary of Independence invited Barbadians to participate in a song competition.  The objective was to produce an official song that celebrates Barbados’ 50th Year of Independence, under the theme Pride and Industry – Celebrating Fifty.

Songs were judged based on originality, relevance to the theme, lyrics, melody and overall impact. (BGIS)
