THE ROADS of Barbados will be busy over the next few weeks with the start of the 2016 sugar cane harvest.
According to sources grinding has not begun, but harvested cane is being transported to weigh stations across the island.
The 2016 harvest has suffered a major blow from the drought conditions and is predicted to see a decline in yield.
Chairman of the Barbados Sugar Industry Limited, Patrick Bethell, was recently quoted as saying the drought conditions actually began in 2014 and caused fewer crops to germinate. (JS)
