AUTHORITIES have released the 16-year-old schoolboy who spent the weekend confined to the Psychiatric Hospital.
Yesterday, as friends, concerned Barbadians and others prepared to agitate for the teen’s release, word came that he would be discharged after being sent there on Friday.
In a statement issued yesterday, the Child Care Board (CCB) revealed the boy’s release while also saying it had observed the protocols for handling children who expressed suicidal thoughts.
“They are immediately referred to the Psychiatric Hospital for an assessment . . . . We have to act in the best interest of the child and these protocols have been developed to do just that and not harm or stigmatise,” said Joan Crawford, CCB director.
