It’s Lester Vaughan and St Michael

THE LESTER VAUGHAN SCHOOL and The St Michael School are the inaugural champions of the Frank Blackman Zone in this year’s Powerade Barbados Secondary Schools’ Athletics Championships.

On Friday at the National Stadium, defending boys’ champs Lester Vaughan held off all challenges from Queen’s College to tally 388.5 points. Queen’s College were second with 377 and Coleridge and Parry third on 274.

Perennial contenders St Michael consolidated their overnight position, pulling away from Queen’s College to finish on 368 points. Queen’s College barely held on for second with 254.5, half a point more than The Lester Vaughan girls.

Sarah Belle (above) of Princess Margaret was crowned Victrix ludorum of the Zone, while Enrique Babb, who was victor ludorum at last year’s championships, took top honours among the boys.

With the conclusion of both the Frank Blackman and Esther Maynard Zones, the best athletes will advance to next week’s finals which will be held on Thursday and Friday. (SAT)
