Police delay halts plans for protest

HOPES TO STAGE a protest against a proposed breakwater were washed away yesterday by what an agitated surfing instructor blamed on “unprofessionalism” by the Royal Barbados Police Force.

However, Sam Inniss is determined to continue his fight, even taking it “beyond the shores of Barbados”.

For almost three years, Inniss, who said he was backed by hundreds of locals and non-Barbadians, has been petitioning against the proposed Sandy Lane Beach Regeneration and Marine Rejuvenation Project. The project, facilitated by Beach Regeneration Incorporated (BRI), involves the installation of breakwaters along the Sandy Lane Bay in St James.

The protest, which Inniss said would have boasted 40 to 60 participants, failed to start on its planned Holetown to Sandy Lane path as a permit sought by him was never issued. (TKS)
