White Hill pickup still on

THE SANITATION SERVICE AUTHORITY (SSA) will continue to collect garbage from White Hill despite the harrowing experience of a three-man crew on Sunday in the beleagured St Andrew district.

“We collect garbage from White Hill every single week, so there is no problem,” was the initial response from acting general manager Rosalind Knight, in a telephone interview yesterday in response to the SSA truck being trapped and tottering at the edge of the dangerous, marl-filled road.

However, when pressed about the issue and if the SSA would continue to send trucks to areas renowned for land slippages, Knight said she had no further comment and abruptly ended the call.

The SSA driver and two loaders escaped injury when the truck they were operating suddenly came to a halt after its front left wheel became fully submerged on the road. (RA)
