THE OUTCOME of Dr Maria Agard’s legal challenge to her expulsion from the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) will be known later.

Yesterday after submissions from both sides were completed, Justice Olson Alleyne reserved his ruling in the matter.

The Christ Church West Member of Parliament is seeking damages from the BLP, and yesterday’s hearing lasted over five hours in the No. 11 Supreme Court. Agard, who now sits as an Independent in the House of Assembly, had been expelled by the National Council, which cited public utterances that were deemed harmful to the BLP, as well as her alleged refusal to acknowledge and work with her constituency branch executive as the reason for its disciplinary action.

Since her expulsion in November, her predecessor Dr William Duguid was again nominated by the BLP to contest the seat after a three-year break. (TS)
