NIS payouts‘on track’

LONG WAITS FOR benefit payments from the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) should now be the exception and not the rule.

For several months people waiting for maternity and sickness payments have been complaining about excessively long waits for payments due to them, but Director of the NIS, Ian Carrington, told the WEEKEND NATION yesterday that payments were back “on par”.

“Obviously there are always individuals who will have challenges, and actually when we get those challenges we try to fast track them and get them paid. Because the intent is to ensure that everybody gets their benefits in a timely manner,” Carrington stated.

The NIS head said they brought on some additional hands around November last year, and payments should have been brought up to date from February. (YB)
