THE NEW FORMAT for the Sagicor General Twenty20 cricket competition has been no-balled by half of the Division 1 clubs.

Five of ten Division 1 clubs in the revamped tournament, in which they have to play a Super10 phase before earning qualification to the Super12 stage with the ten Elite Division teams, have voiced their opposition to the new measures introduced by the Barbados Cricket Association.

ESA Field Pickwick vice-president Rondell Yearwood, Lee’s Bistro Carlton coach Shirley Clarke and Gladiola (formerly LIME) president Emmerson Bascombe have expressed dissatisfaction with the format of the competition, which bowls off today with double headers at Beckles Road and Cane Garden.

Additionally, the representatives of two other clubs, who asked not to be identified, also failed to endorse the new format.
