SOMETIMES ONE GETS the impression that this present Government is “retrovert” – to apply a new word to an old activity.
Its actions and attitude take me back to my days in elementary school and well do I remember a rather, shall we say, brutal sport when the cry went up, “cork sticking in the air, who don’t like it disappear!”
The “fun” for the giver but not the receiver was for the giver to take a rubber ball and throw it with force into the torso of the receiver. Ouch! Pain! That was “cork sticking”. As the ball was grabbed by the next person, all the others nearby were in danger. And so it went.
In recent months and years we have suffered many “body blows of taxation”. In addition, we have – metaphorically – suffered “cork sticking”’ from institutions starved of resources and rent by misplaced priorities. Wot, more than two million in fireworks to celebrate a date more than ten months in the future? Former National Conservation Commission workers feeling that rubber ball! Ouch!
We have a new Water Authority building, but thousands starved of water as promises are high but distribution hits a new low. Priority?
The percentage of water in the body can vary. Water is critical to life! Because the fat in your body has a lot of water in it, you have to first know how much fat you have before you can then figure out what your healthy water content is. That is, if you, say, have 33 per cent fat in your body, then you only need another 37 per cent of water alone, because you have water in the fat.
One element of the body that tends to be constant in terms of need for water is blood. Some may say that the percentage of water in the blood is only 82 per cent. I shall not quibble since my concern is dehydration due to lack of water. For instance, one important function of water in your system is to cleanse your pores. Sweat helps that happen; however, sweat removes water from the body.
No one can determine better than you if if you have dehydration. If you feel that you are already thirsty or sweating profusely, you have to replenish your body with water immediately. Do not wait for severe symptoms to show before you take action, since this can be life-threatening.
Everyone is practically at risk for dehydration, even without any physical activity, so it is important to always keep water available to keep you hydrated. What should the poor folks in St Joseph, St Andrew, St Peter and elsewhere do when there is no water available for days on end?
I suggest you show your displeasure, but not your anger, with this situation by coming to Parliament when the no-confidence motion is to be debated. You may have to bathe the night before – from tap or bucket – but be there. I shall be. We all need to let those in Government who have been “cork sticking” us for years know that we support the motion because this is the first step in requiring you to bring an end to your misplaced priorities and, as it were, an end to the brutal “cork sticking” actions.
