A SPORTING CULTURE?
Not here in Barbados.
Long-serving Barbados Olympic Association president Steve Stoute has cried down the way Bajan society continues to treat sports after even more federations had issues getting duty waivers to clear items out of the Bridgetown Port.
“Barbados does not have a sports culture as such because when I visit a number of countries and I see they type of attitude they have to sports then you see how difficult it is for us to perform in this environment,” Stoute told WEEKENDSPORT.
“As a sports administrator, it is frustrating the type of red tape we need to cut through and the process we have to go through to try and get duty free concessions. Before you would go to the National Sports Council and they would make recommendations to the respective ministry but now we have to go straight to the ministry and, in many cases, the concessions aren’t provided.
