PM wants help for small islands

SMALL DEVELOPING countries must be treated as individual entities that have specific needs if they are to develop socially and economically.

And Prime Minister of Barbados Freundel Stuart is calling for a strong global partnership for development designed to propel progress in small island states.

He was delivering an address to the United Nations General Assembly yesterday on the ways to implement successfully the UN’s global sustainable economic and social development strategy that underpinned Agenda 2030.

Stuart said any approach must take into consideration, the “unique vulnerabilities” of small island developing states, SIDS, including Barbados and its Caribbean neighbours.
