THE FORMER Texaco Cricket Ground has been returned to Black Rock residents for their sporting use.

And the Minister of Finance and parliamentary representative for St Michael North West, Chris Sinckler, within whose constituency the area lies, has publicly thanked regional petroleum company RUBIS, the new owners of the cricket ground, for the gesture.

Congratulating management of the company at a function to mark RUBIS’ fifth anniversary of Caribbean operations on Thursday, Sinckler said: “Just prior to the arrival of RUBIS, Chevron who were responsible for the Texaco operations in Barbados had closed that field down, shut the club down, stopped the Texaco Cricket Club from using the ground and barricadedly stopped the residents from using that ground which was donated as a philanthropic contribution to the society of Black Rock many, many, many years ago.” (GC)
