WHEN I FIRST HEAR the story bout a student beating up a teacher . . . well, spitting pon, kicking and punching a teacher, the first thing dat come tuh me was, uh uh something got tuh be very wrong because it didn’t sound right tuh me.
Well, the next thing I hear was dat it was a female teacher and the student was only 14 years old; dat put a whole new spin pon the whole thing.
Well I ain’t gine tell you nuh lie ’cause all of a sudden I became judgmental – ya know how we Bajans are? I get vex as France and start asking if a li’l 14-year-old child could get suh angry dat she could spit pon, kick and wring a cuff in a big-able woman, a teacher.
I ain’t telling ya no lie, I was voicing my opinion and washing my mout pon the li’l girl and obviously lumping all children in the same bucket, which ya should nevah do but I was doing it.
I start tuh say dat I agree wid dem expelling she, dat it would send a message tuh all the rest o’ dem kinda students so who want tuh do as duh please in the people schools. Dat duh ain’t got nuh kinda respect for authority at all.
But then I look in the Wednesday MIDWEEK NATION and was reading what the mother said and I had tuh swallow my words and ask God fuh forgiveness ’cause I was acting and getting on just like evahbody else.
Judging from what she said, it look like it ain’t the first time dat the li’l girl had a run-in wid dat same teacher and it ain’t look like the child is a gully bore nor nuh bad-john.
It look like the teacher had a hand in the whole thing too. The mother say dat the child was having problems and had made three complaints tuh the year head ’bout the same teacher and nuhbody ain’t do nothing ’bout it.
From what I read in the papers, it wasn’t just a spit pon, kick an cuff; it was a fight and duh say dat the teacher was ’pon top the li’l girl ’pon the ground. Well, I tell ya, what a thing nuh?
A female teacher and a li’l 14-year-old student down ’pon the ground fighting and the students having tuh part dem; you could imagine dat?
But I blame the school system: a lot o’ school personnel does sweep things under the carpet – duh doan deal wid dem up front – in the hope dat they would somehow go away. I see something very wrong wid dat and I gine tell ya now, um doan work in any kinda organisation nor institution because eventually it does trip ya up and dat is when it does become messy like wha’ happening now.
Too may things like this kinda situation are happening in schools nowadays because it look like the people who are put in certain positions like duh frighten tuh deal wid dem.
I doan know why, and duh keep waiting till the situations get outta hand. Dat is why I say something wrong. This kinda thing couldn’t happen just so – dat teacher and dat student had tuh have some kinda run in before.
These things ain’t new; students have been hating some teachers fuh as long as there was something called school ’cause some children just doan like nubody telling dem what tuh do fuh what evah reason, and the same thing goes fuh some teachers; dem and some students just doan gel and because dem is the teacher, duh does show it. Dat ain’t mean it right, but it should nevah evah be allowed tuh get tuh this stage.
