Teachers: Meet us or else

A STORM IS brewing between teachers and MInister of Education Ronald Jones.

And if the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT) request for a meeting next week is not met, president Pedro Shepherd has promised that indefinite industrial action will follow.

After a four-hour long meeting with primary and secondary school teachers yesterday, Shepherd revealed that the union had decided that a meeting with Jones was the only way forward.

And if this request was not met by Wednesday, industrial action would swiftly follow on the next teaching day.

“We had a very productive meeting, I would say. The union would have heard from the teachers, a few teachers made their contributions from the floor and at the conclusion of the meeting, a directive was given from the membership, which we would speak to later on,” Shepherd said. (AD)
