CDEMA ready to handle major disaster

SHOULD MOTHER NATURE flex her muscles in a large way, the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) is now at a 75 to 80 per cent capacity to deal with a catastrophe.

That’s the word from CDEMA’s executive director Ronald Jackson.

Jackson gave the regional entity that grade after it completed a two-day technical advisory meeting and conference in Barbados.

However, he believes there is much room for improvement.

Jackson was confident that should a major disaster occur, such as the massive earthquake which rocked Haiti in 2010, CDEMA stands ready. (BA)
