CARIBBEAN JOCKEYS dominated the opening weekend at Northlands Park, Alberta, Canada, capturing a total of 12 races.

On Friday night, Jamaican-born Dane Nelson, who was fourth in last year’s Assinaboia Downs jockeys’ championship in Winnipeg, ran hot, winning four races.

With the opening weekend featuring all sprint races, Nelson won astride Harbour Gold, Onestaratatime, Eustacia and Doc.

Nelson registered a solitary win the following day when he won with Casa Cat, who raced six furlongs in 1:11.98.

That same day also proved a good one for Quincy Welch, who matched his opening night’s brace with another pair of wins. (LY)
