INDEPENDENT SENATOR Carol Lady Haynes has given her support to the Caribbean Accreditation Authority (Education in Medicine and Other Health Professions) Incorporation Bill 2016 debated in the Senate yesterday.
However, Lady Haynes called for a balance between the business aspect and the administrative reality.
“I speak particularly of the shortage of internship spaces for which we have suffered over several years now. I heard Senator [Sir Henry] Fraser this morning talk about the original scheme where not more than 25 interns should have been here in Barbados. This is not currently the case,” she said.
“I would want to put my concern that as we look at our medical schools, we ensure that we just don’t look at the foreign exchange dollars” because internship spaces had to be found for students. (JS)
