WITH BARBADOS making plans to host a World Road Tennis Tournament in the last quarter of this year, the Ministry of Sport has been heavily engaged in promoting the indigenous Barbadian sport throughout the Caribbean.

Yesterday, the best three players in the island, Kim Holder, Mark “Venom” Griffith and Julian “Michael Jackson” White, left for a four-day tour of Jamaica. Accompanying the trio was president of the World Road Tennis Federation (WRTF), MacArthur “Jolla” Barrow, National Sports Council board member Sylvesta Forde and veteran road tennis official Philip “Foff” Garner.

So far development tours have been conducted in St Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines. The team is also expected to visit Trinidad and Tobago and Cuba.

Barrow said that the tours were steps towards realising the goals of the WRTF in making road tennis an international sport. (KB)
