DIALOGUE HAS BEGUN on the measures that Barbados plans to put in place as part of its Nationally Determined Contribution to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Following the Conference of the Parties (COP21) in Paris in December 2015, countries have agreed to publicly outline what post-2020 climate actions they intend to take under a new international agreement.
This morning stakeholders from the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Energy, the United Nations Development Programme and the European Union gathered at the Savannah Hotel to reacquaint themselves with the Contribution and to commence talks on the preparation of a Nationally Determined Contribution implementation Plan.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environment Edison Alleyne said even though Barbados produces one per cent of the global greenhouse gas emissions and in the grand scheme of things was insignificant, it still wanted to be a good global steward. (LK)
