HENRY AND GLENDINE Gamble of Church Village, Horse Hill, St Joseph realised they were facing an uphill battle when they challenged their insurance company after their home sustained severe structural damage.

Their home of over 40 years was among several houses as well as the St Joseph Parish Church which sustained cracks about six years ago following the passage of Tropical Storm Tomas.

The Gambles, who said they had diligently paid their insurance premiums over the years, were taken aback when Insurance Corporation of Barbados Ltd (ICBL) informed them after an engineer’s report that the company would offer compensation of less than half of what the property was valued.

So upset was the couple that they highlighted their plight in this newspaper in 2013, disputing the engineer’s report that the damage to their home was due to the construction of an apartment building adjacent to their property.
