GUARDIAN GENERAL Pride of Villa may have waved goodbye to any hopes of taking their first Division 1 netball crown after they were beaten by former queens Pine Hill St Barnabas on Friday night at the Netball Stadium.

In a contentious game which saw Villa having to contest the last quarter with six girls following the ejection of national player Sabreena Smith, St Barnabas edged home 36-32.

Villa had surged from a horrible first quarter 6-15 to trail 25-27 when some contact occurred between Smith and fellow national Cherese Seale.

With ten seconds left in that third quarter the game was held up as the players from both teams restrained Smith and Seale from escalating the incident. After a stoppage of six minutes, Smith was ejected and the game resumed.
